Group Projects
I read another blog from someone else that was talking about the group projects and how silly they are. I agree with that. I understand the philosophy behind it but it has gotten so mundane and ridiculous that I am not learning anything from them. Don't get me wrong, I like the group I'm in for this project, they're a good bunch of guys. But, I have 3 group projects right now in 3 different classes (soon to be 4 projects) and I can't keep them straight because they are all so similar. In fact, that's how I feel about all of my final classes here at UWM. Is it possible for this school to keep me here any longer?...Oh yeah, I still have one more semester of student teaching. Anyways, I guess I will gladly do my projects but it is getting ever more difficult to do them with a decent level of effort and care.

I can understand where you are coming from, but luckily our group had our question divided into 3 categories. Therefore, we are all learning something toward our 1 question. While breaking it up into categories, it balances the load of work and in the end, all 4 of our group members will have something to bring to the table when we present. I'm saying this now, so hopefully it works out like I'm planning,ha.
ReplyDeleteI don't exactly know how I'm supposed to be responding to a blog this week since we're all just giving a status report so I'll just second the idea of not liking all the group projects. I forget who's in my group for each one, which one is due when and what my responsibilities are for each. The only benefit of this one is that we had time to work in class instead of having to figure out some other time to get together.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I understand that it feels weird or silly that we are posting blogs about our research docs when we are going to be presenting them, too. Student teaching and going to school is tough. I would like to say that just be glad that you are taking this class now and not at the end of your last semester like I am. It's becoming very challenging to juggle classes with teaching. I'm trying to stay positive and not get sick, too!
ReplyDeleteThe teaching profession requires a great deal of collaboration in order to be sucessfull. In this context, I can understand why there are so many group projects in our education classes. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much focus on how to work together. I've been working in small groups throughout my entire school experience, but it never really seems like a truly collaborative effort. I guess the idea is that if we keep wprking in groups we'll learn how to work together. Nevertheless, some specific strategies would be helpful.
ReplyDeleteI hear you brother! I think almost all of us are working on group projects for all of our classes. At what point are we going to learn on our own instead of being forced to "learn" in a team? At some point it's not learning... it's just annoying.
